Child sponsorship is a powerful, proven method for helping economically disadvantaged children break free from the cycle of poverty. Sponsoring a child provides them with education, nourishing food, healthcare, and training to develop self-confidence, social skills, and key life skills. Child sponsorship has been called “the great equalizer” because it levels the playing field for children in the developing world who seek education.
Quality education for everyone.
70 million children
do not have access to basic education. We’re helping change that through child sponsorship.
Research by Dr. Bruce Wydick, Professor of Economics and International Studies at USF, shows that formerly sponsored children vs. non-sponsored children: • stay in school 1.5 years longer • are up to 80% more likely to complete a university education • are up to 18% more likely to have salaried employment and 35% more likely to secure white-collar employment as adults • are 75% more likely to become community leaders.
The Passport Scholars Mission was inspired by the TOMS® One-for-One® model, but we took it a step further. For every middle or high school student in the Passport Scholars homestay program, we will sponsor at least one child directly or through Compassion International. Direct sponsorship covers all of the student’s educational and living expenses for the entire school year, with the goal of sponsoring them until they graduate.

Higher standards and better service for our students.
70,000 international high school students
study in the U.S. each year. We give ours better learning and living environments.
It’s common knowledge that many overseas education agencies use very unethical business practices, often over-promising and under-delivering. However, U.S. agencies and homestay companies also contribute their fair share of eyebrow-raising conduct. We pledge to always maintain ethical business practices and hold others to those same standards. We further pledge to report illegal activity when we see it to help our industry as a whole become more trustworthy and accountable.
Every single one of our partner schools is accredited by the appropriate government agencies and/or well-known independent accrediting organizations. We ensure that the schools we work with provide a safe learning environment to all of our students. The schools we work with are diverse and understand the value that having an international student population can bring. Our partner schools range in size and location and while they each have something different for every student, they all help them better prepare for a brighter future.
Unfortunately there are documented cases where homestay providers failed to properly vet their families and the students suffered as a result. We go above and beyond the State Department guidelines of only asking for recommendation letters and also run background checks on every adult in the household. These reports include data from local, state, and federal databases and help us ensure their homes are safe to live in. We also personally visit and interview each family and ensure they’re aware of and comply with our Homestay Guidelines.
